TREK PLANNING
Every trek has a purpose. It may be to reach the peak of a moutain, or fish at a remote
lake, hike a trail or just relax a while next to a great campfire. What ever your reason for
adventuring in the wilderness, planning how to complete goals is important.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS?
Lets say you are planning to fish for Northern Pike in Quetico Park in Canada. Unless you
have someone fly you into your destination, the only way reach your favorite lake is by
canoe. Therefore to reach your ultimate location could take some time. By using your maps
that you need to plan how to reach your destination. Here are the question you must
consider.
HOW FAR? - How much distance are you going to cover to reach your destination?

HOW LONG? - How long will it take you to get to your destination?

INFORM OTHERS - Leave others with your itenerary may be the single most inportant
act before leaving on a trek.

STOP OVERS? - If your going to take more that a day to reach your goal, where are you
going to make camp on your travels.

PLAN B - Having a "PLAN B" or alternate should you not be able to reach goal is essential!

BACKUP PLAN - Should disaster happen and you actually need to switch into survival
mode, what did you do to ensure you will be rescued quickly!
