| It is now time to decided the most logical plan of action. The most obvious decision is the choice between staying in place or moving to another location. Here are the factors that will help you decide. 1. WHO KNOWS WHERE YOU'VE GONE? - If you made an itenerary and informed others where you were going and when you were to return, most likely at some point in time there will be people searching for you. 2. HOW LONG BEFORE HELP - Of course if you are on day three of a two week trek then you know it will be eleven days before anyone suspects your missing. This may necessitate the need to move. Once again, if you have distributed your itinerary to others, staying on your intended path may be the best idea. Stay where you can be found. 3. ARE YOUR SURROUNDINGS HABITABLE - The may be an immediate need to move because of your environment. Finding cover from the sun or wind may be necessary. If so leave signs of where you've been and which way you are traveling to help others find you. Knowing trail signs is important. 4. IS THERE A MEDICAL NEED - If you are in a situation where someones life is a stake because of a medical need, it may mean the time to move is now. If your sure that the only option to save yours or someone else's life is to escape, do it. Just remember, be calm and deliberate. It does no good to loose your life being foolish. |
