TROOP 382 COMMUNICATOR
As we approach the spring and summer camping season, there is a lot of organization
that needs to be completed. April’s survival campout has the boys building their own
shelter and providing their own food for the weekend. May will be the summer camp
service project that will have us painting the trading post and building and painting
bathroom stalls. June will be the mountain man program in Virginia and July is summer
camp at Seven Ranges. We will end the summer on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. It
looks to be a busy time for the troop.
We need to finalize our travel plans to Virginia based on an overnight stay or an early
Sunday arrival. We need to have the boys schedule their merit badge classes for summer
camp. The schedules will be available at Tuesdays meeting for the boys to choose. Then
we have the travel plans for South Bass Island as well.
We are looking into getting new troop apparel made up. We are looking at polo’s, t-shirts,
hats, hoodies and jackets. Hopefully we can do several styles including a Philmont
commemorative shirt. Anyone who has design ideas should feel free to submit any
suggestions.
We currently have two fundraising efforts going on. The committee has approved raising
funds for the troop to purchase an AED (automatic electronic defibrillator). We are looking
to raise approximately $1,200 to purchase one for the troop. We are also taking personal
donations to assist the Starcher family in obtaining a head stone for Jim. Jim gave so
much to the boys of the troop, we feel this is just a small thing we can do for him.
There are other events that will be coming this year as well. We have a few adopt-a-
highway clean ups, Heritage Days, Cider Fest, and the Copley Halloween in the park. We
will also have several merit badges and plenty of opportunity for community service
available the rest of the year.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending Alan Smith’s Eagle board of review. Each time
a boy in the troop earns his eagle, it adds to the legacy of the troop. We are proud of Alan’
s accomplishment and want to congratulate him on becoming the 42nd Eagle from Troop
382.
Scoutmasters Minute:
Congratulations to Nick Geisendorfer for becoming the new Senior Patrol Leader.
Leadership is never easy but can become a natural part of an individuals personality. I
know Nick will do a good job at leading the troop for the next six months.
